The Blind Man Robert Hinchliffe Have you seen the blind man, have you seen him there, Stands like a statue, the wind blowing through his hair, His sunken eyes aren’t smiling, what do sunken eyes betray, The gold of the morning, the blackness of his day, And a thousand people pass on by, watch summers footsteps fade and die. On the corner there’s a blind man, have you passed him on your way, Stands like a statue selling thankyou and good day. Well I wonder what he’s thinking and wonder where he’s from, Children stare at the blind man, the blind looks at no-one, And a thousand people pass on by, watch summers footsteps fade and die Have your seen the blindman, have you seen him there, Stands like a statue, the wind blowing through his hair, Well he’s looking with his fingers, and he’s looking with his ears, The blind man sees no time though, only we see his years And a thousand people pass on by, watch summers footsteps fade and die. © Copyright Registered to Robert Hinchliffe 1972

Lady of The Dark – ROBERT HINCHLIFFE V1 Lady, oh lady, can you hear these words I say, Lady oh Lady, are you close to me today, Standing in the doorway, or just faces in my dream, Somewhere back along the lonely trail, there’s a vision of a lady face so pale, And fire seems to flicker in her eyes, fingers to grope through my disguise. V2 Lady, oh lady, deep in the night I hear your sigh, Lady, oh lady back through the years, I hear your cry, Well there’s something quite unnatural, about the hold you have on me, Come sweet lady of the dark, come and never shall we part, Tonight, I’ll bring you from your grave, tonight in the shadows we’ll be safe, V3 Lady, oh lady what do you see, what do you know, Lady, oh lady, why can’t you say, why can’t you show, Well there’s something quite unnatural, about the hold you have on me, A diamond I held you in my hand, but you slipped through my fingers just like sand, And now only memories remain, like a cold room with empty picture frames. V4 Lady, oh lady the hour draws near, the time has come, Lady oh lady, what I have to do, is nearly done, Out there in the darkness, I’ll join the voice that cries, Come sweet lady of the dark, arise from the shadows of your tomb, Burn me with those eyes of fire, quench this burning desire, Come sweet lady of the dark, come and never let us part, Tonight, I’ll bring you from your grave, tonight in the shadows we’ll be safe. © Copyright Registered to Robert Hinchliffe 1972

The Same Mistake – ROBERT HINCHLIFFE V1 They say you take a man, and you build him up, They say you pour him out, and you fill your cup, But when his chips are down, and he’s all dried up, Well I don’t intend sticking around here… Making the same mistake. V2 They say you treat a man, like some kind of machine, Your keep his wheels turning, you keep him clean, But when he blows a fuse, your nowhere to be seen, Well I don’t intend sticking around here…. Making the same mistake… Wheels in motion, Darlin you’re sure bad company, Well I’ve got a notion, baby my eyes aren’t blind to see, Yes I’m coming round at last to my senses, Not just another also defenseless fool…. V3 They say you chose a man, like you chose a book, Your open the cover, and you take a look, But when the stories through, when you’ve read enough, Well I don’t intend stickin around here.. Making the same mistake…. V4 Well you’re an ocean linear, and I’m on a cruise, You got to keep on moving, but I can choose, So I’m going to jump right over, watch you sail into the blue… See, I don’t intend sticking around here… Making the same mistake… © CopyRight Registered to Robert Hinchliffe 1972

Words Upon An Ocean – ROBERT HINCHLIFFE V1 Saw a board outside a church, said neglect ruins friendship, Thought I’d write a letter straight away, I wonder how your keeping, Jenny must be talking, Have you done, the painting for your wall, I took a long vacation, I’m living by the sea, Sometimes I stop awhile, I wonder where you are. V2 Down here there’s a harbour, where I’ve got an occupation, Selling ice cream, watching children play, Every days a holiday, even if it’s raining, I’m pleased I’m not a slot machine at times, Words upon an ocean, waves upon a page, Sometimes I stop awhile, I think of us and smile. V3 Sitting in me bedroom, gingers looking lonely, Now he’s pulling claw marks on the door, Out there in the distance, I can see an ocean linear, Must have dropped its anchor, till the dawn, I’ll post this in the morning, and leave you now tonight, Sometimes I stop awhile, and wonder what went wrong. © Copyright Registered to Robert Hinchliffe 1972

Tomorrows Just A Film – ROBERT HINCHLIFFE V1 Monday mornin, Oh I’m still yawning, as I wipe the sleep away, I light a cigarette, trying too forget, the tea as cold as the day, And so the years fade away, scattered reflections of the day, Oh I don’t heed them anymore, tomorrows, a film I’ve seen before. V2 Look at your father, look at your mother, look at the next person you meet, Look at the houses, look at the people, look at the litter by your feet, So the years fade away, scattered reflections of the day, Oh I don’t heed them anymore, Oh tomorrows, a film I’ve seen before. V3 Faded photographs, memories of our past, faces we carry with a smile, Friendly happy ones, sad and lonely ones, faces we need with us a while, And so the years fade away, scattered reflections of the day, But I don’t heed them anymore, Oh tomorrows, a film I’ve seen before, © Copyright registered to Robert Hinchliffe 1972

CROSSES IN THE SAND – ROBERT HINCHLIFFE Many a river has run to the sea, Many a soldier has fought to be free, Many an arrow has flown straight and fast, Y-e-s many a things happened, since I saw home last. Many a sword has drawn red blood, Many a face has lay still in the mud, Many a child has found its mothers knee, Y-e-s may a things happened since I last saw thee. CHORUS - But now its all over, I’d take the road again, For victory is sweet and the glory of men, And its better to fight than run and then hide, And we’d fight until we died, My memories of enemies are crosses in the sand, No flower grows in that bare land. Many were the shields that glinted in the sun, Many was the fight lost and then won, And brave were the many men who fought without fear. B-u-t many were the men, who wished home was near. And manies the time through the battle fields I’d roam. And I saw many a friend that would never see home, And many of their faces tore wholes in my mind. Oh Oh manies the time, I’d wished I’d been blind. CHORUS But now it’s all over I’d take the road again, for victory... © Copyright Registered to Robert Hinchliffe 1972

California Eyes – ROBERT HINCHLIFFE 1 Well Billy turned his back upon the things he couldn’t see, You gave him your friendship, your love and mystery, But you knew you couldn’t feed a man with a belly full of lies, California, I tried to warn you, but you flew like a bird fast and fancy free, Oh Oh Oh California eyes, your with me when I sleep, your with me when I rise A shadow in my dreams, your there and then you’re gone, California, I always morn you so long 2 Well you moved down south, put a ribbon in your hair, Eyes full of tears, a heart filled with despair, A stranger to the city lights, wishing you were home, California, I tried to warn you, but you looked like a queen with a ribbon in your hair Oh Oh California eyes, you’re with me when I sleep, your with me when I rise, A shadow in my dreams your there and then your gone, California I'll always morn you so long 3 Well you moved in with the shadows and the shadows swallowed you, Painted your finger nails, painted your face too, But you can’t paint a smile on eyes that only frown, California, I tried to warn you, high up above, nowhere to come down Oh Oh Oh California eyes, your with me when I sleep, your with me when I rise, A shadow in my dreams, your there and then your gone, California I'll always morn you so long 4 Well I just couldn’t believe the man, when he told me you were gone, I searched for a year or more, I tried to prove him wrong, But the only place I ever found, were places where places that you’d been, California, I tried to warn you but you flew like a bird fast and fancy free, Chorus. Oh Oh Oh California eyes, your with me when I sleep, your with me when I rise, A shadow in my dreams, your there and then your gone, California I'll always mourn you so long….. © Copyright registered to Robert Hinchliffe 1972
