Words Upon An Ocean – ROBERT HINCHLIFFE Saw a board outside a church, said neglect ruins friendship, Thought I’d write a letter straight away, I wonder how your keeping, Jenny must be talking, Have you done, the painting for your wall, I took a long vacation, I’m living by the sea, Sometimes I stop awhile, I wonder where you are. Down here there’s a harbour, where I’ve got an occupation, Selling ice cream, watching children play, Every days a holiday, even if it’s raining, I’m pleased I’m not a slot machine at times, Words upon an ocean, waves upon a page, Sometimes I stop awhile, I think of us and smile. Sitting in me bedroom, gingers looking lonely, Now he’s pulling claw marks on the door, Out there in the distance, I can see an ocean linear, Must have dropped its anchor, till the dawn, I’ll post this in the morning, and leave you now tonight, Sometimes I stop awhile, and wonder what went wrong. © Copyright Registered to Robert Hinchliffe 1972. The Gypsy Boy Blues – ROBERT HINCHLIFFE I lie awake at night, thinking of wrong and right, Four walls, an empty room, six strings, a guitar tune, East winds, can blow so hard, stake running through my heart, Down in the bottom of the night… Take me down, take me down, to the world that I know, Take me down, take me down, to the valleys I call home, Yet I still play, the gypsy boy blues. White sheets, and jet black hair, so I remember her, Maybe a year or more, see a caller at her door, Silver, alas good bye, sometimes I wonder why, Down in the bottom of the night… Take me down, take me down, to the world that I know, Take me down, take me down, to the valleys I call home, Yet I still play, the gypsy boy blues. The moon up high, across a river so wide, Shines a deep silver eye, on this grey city line, With love in our hearts, joy in our souls, Six ways to turn, only one way we go, The things we begin, the things we can’t start, When the fingers of dawn, Day break, a half past four, morning knocking on my door, Summer nights, so insane, spots upon my window pain, Turn my head, sleep some more, will I wake, I can’t be sure, Down in the bottom of the night. Take me down, take me down, to the world that I know, Take me down, take me down, to the valleys I call home, Yet I still play, the gypsy boy blues. © Copyright Registered to Robert Hinchliffe 1970. Up Near The Sky – ROBERT HINCHLIFFE More than a dream, you can laugh, you can scream, Walkin on air by yourself, no-one there, Leave all you cares, what a beautiful world, H- i- g- h And you mind won’t sleep tonight, gotta a feelin deep inside… Maybe an hour, or a day, or a year, Sat in the clouds, oh you can’t hear a sound, A picture to see, do you know, do you know, H- i- g- h Oh your eyes are open wide, you see things in a different light… Solo A man in raincoat, a suite case, a door way, A story a book, now a page in your life, Reach out and touch, what you see, can you see, High Oh your mind won’t sleep tonight, you see things in a different light… Oh your eyes are open wide… Up near the sky, oh your soul wanders on…. In This Tender Glow – Robert Hinchliffe Theres a log on the fire, burning slow, Like the love we know.. Shadows on the wall, flicker and dance, in this silent show… In this home that we made, from our hearts, so our love can grow.. Oh I think that I’ve found, peace at last, In this Tender glow.. We’ll turn our back on a world full of change, Forget the pressure forget the strain, We’ll draw the curtains.. and turn down the lights, We’ll lock the door.. enjoy the night… Your pictures on the wall, tell a tale, off the world we share.. And the songs that I write, sound in key, by this fire light.. In this home that we made,, from our heart, so our love can grow, Oh I think that I’ve found peace at last.. In this tender glow, Yes I think that I’ve found peace at last .. In this tender glow, Yes I think that I’ve found peace at last.. The Blind Man Robert Hinchliffe Have you seen the blind man, have you seen him there, Stands like a statue, the wind blowing through his hair, His sunken eyes aren’t smiling, what do sunken eyes betray, The gold of the morning, the blackness of his day, And a thousand people pass on by, watch summers footsteps fade and die. On the corner there’s a blind man, have you passed him on your way, Stands like a statue selling thankyou and good day. Well I wonder what he’s thinking and wonder where he’s from, Children stare at the blind man, the blind looks at no-one, And a thousand people pass on by, watch summers footsteps fade and die Have your seen the blindman, have you seen him there, Stands like a statue, the wind blowing through his hair, Well he’s looking with his fingers, and he’s looking with his ears, The blind man sees no time though, only we see his years And a thousand people pass on by, watch summers footsteps fade and die. © Copyright Registered to Robert Hinchliffe 1972 From the album 'Songs', released April 15, 2019.
